SN 12.12 – Moḷiyaphagguna Sutta (Phaguna of the Top-Knot)

In this insightful session, Datuk Dr. Lim Siow Jin shared reflections on the nature of sustenance as taught by the Buddha, emphasizing how each type of nutriment influences the continuity of life. Dr. Rajesh Savera guided the discussion, helping participants understand the practical relevance of these teachings.

The discourse takes place at Sāvatthī, where the Buddha addressed the Bhikkhus, saying: “Bhikkhus, there are these four kinds of nutriment for the maintenance of beings that have come into existence or for the support of those seeking to come into existence.” These four are: physical food, contact, mental volition, and consciousness.

The session highlighted how these four supports play a critical role not just in sustaining life, but in shaping experiences and actions. Through guided reflection and analysis, attendees were able to explore how this understanding can inform awareness in day-to-day living.
