Exploring Tailored Nutrition Support at Hope Charitable Trust

On 24th June 2025, the One Dollar One Child (ODOC) team visited Hope Charitable Trust in Chennai to explore the possibility of introducing the ODOC Project—an initiative designed to improve child nutrition through Spirulina supplementation.

This visit was part of ODOC’s ongoing mission to reach children in vulnerable communities, including those with special care needs, through meaningful partnerships with institutions dedicated to holistic well-being.

Discussion with Institutional Leadership

Meeting with Ms. Sanjana

The ODOC team held a focused discussion with Ms. Sanjana, a representative from the Trust’s management. The conversation covered the objectives of the ODOC Project, the nutritional value of Spirulina, and the impact the program has had in other institutions—particularly in combating malnutrition among children.

Ms. Sanjana shared insights into the specific context at Hope Charitable Trust, where children in care include those under the age of 7 and those who are mentally challenged. These groups often require special monitoring and customized support, especially when introducing new nutritional elements into their routines.

Monitoring and Implementation Concerns

While showing genuine interest in the project, Ms. Sanjana raised valid concerns about monitoring and administration of Spirulina for children who may face difficulties in communication, understanding, or consistent intake.

Acknowledging the importance of these considerations, she stated that the proposal would be discussed further with the Trust’s management team to ensure all safety protocols and practicalities are thoroughly reviewed.

Conclusion: A Thoughtful Approach to Inclusive Nutrition

The ODOC team appreciates the candid discussion and thoughtful feedback received during the visit. The opportunity to collaborate with Hope Charitable Trust presents a chance to adapt the ODOC model to meet the needs of children with diverse abilities.

Once internal consultations are complete, the team hopes to initiate the assessment phase in a manner that is both safe and impactful, ensuring that every child—regardless of their challenges—has access to the nutritional support they deserve.

The ODOC team remains committed to supporting Hope Charitable Trust with compassion, care, and collaboration.
