Introduction of ODOC Project at Madrasa Jamia

On 30th May 2025, the One Dollar One Child (ODOC) team visited Madrasa Jamia in Keelkatalai, Chennai, to introduce the ODOC Project to the institution’s leadership. The team met with Moulana Siddique, a key decision-maker at the madrasa, to discuss the initiative’s mission and potential impact.

The ODOC Project, led by the Sunyatee International Foundation, addresses the critical issue of child malnutrition through a sustainable, low-cost solution: daily Spirulina supplementation. The project has shown promising results across other locations, especially in underserved communities.

Sharing Impactful Success Stories

Real-Life Results from Madarsa Ameena

To build trust and offer context, the ODOC team shared success stories from Madarsa Ameena, where the project has already been implemented. The participating children have shown visible improvements in their health, energy levels, and overall development. This practical evidence was used to convey the benefits and safety of Spirulina for children.

Addressing Concerns About Spirulina Safety: The ODOC Project

Firsthand Testimony Builds Confidence

Despite his interest, Moulana Siddique expressed repeated concerns about the safety of Spirulina for children. To address this, the ODOC team facilitated a live phone call between him and a teacher from Madarsa Ameena. The teacher confirmed that the students had not experienced any side effects and had responded well to the supplementation.

This firsthand endorsement played a crucial role in building trust and confidence. Reassured by the testimony, Moulana Siddique agreed to participate in the ODOC initiative.

Looking Ahead: Post-Bakrid Implementation Plan

  • Moulana Siddique requested that the ODOC team revisit Madrasa Jamia between 7th and 10th June, after the Bakrid holidays, as a larger number of students are expected to return by then.
  • The expected number of participating children may exceed 50, making this a significant opportunity to expand the project’s reach.

The ODOC team will plan a follow-up visit post-Bakrid to conduct assessments and finalize the implementation schedule in alignment with the madrasa’s calendar.

Conclusion: Expanding Nutritional Support in Keelkatalai

This engagement with Madrasa Jamia marks an encouraging step forward in ODOC’s mission to fight malnutrition in children through Spirulina. The positive response and growing interest from community leaders underline the project’s scalability and social acceptance. As preparations begin for the next phase, the ODOC team remains committed to creating a healthier future for every child—one madrasa, one community, and one dollar at a time.
