ODOC Project Introduced at St. Mary’s Matriculation School
On 18th June 2025, the One Dollar One Child (ODOC) team visited St. Mary’s Matriculation School in Chennai to present the ODOC Project—an initiative aimed at addressing child malnutrition through Spirulina supplementation.
The visit was part of ODOC’s ongoing outreach program to engage schools across Chennai and introduce sustainable nutritional support for undernourished children.
Discussion with School Leadership
Meeting with Ms. Mother Jennifer
During the visit, the team held a comprehensive discussion with Ms. Mother Jennifer, who oversees academic and student welfare operations. The ODOC team explained the project’s goals, outlined the methodology, and shared encouraging results from other schools where the program has already been implemented.
Real-world data showcasing visible health improvements in children who received Spirulina as part of their daily diet helped demonstrate the program’s effectiveness and credibility.
Initial Approval with a Focus on Consent
After reviewing the details, Ms. Mother Jennifer expressed her support for the initiative and granted approval to begin with one batch of students. However, she emphasized that parental consent is a necessary prerequisite before the project can formally begin.
To facilitate this, she will inform parents via the school’s parent group about the program’s goals, benefits, and safety measures. Once she gathers the required approvals, she will update the ODOC team so that the next steps can proceed smoothly.
Next Steps Toward Implementation
The ODOC team will now await confirmation from Ms. Mother Jennifer once the consultation with parents is completed. Upon receiving the go-ahead, the team will schedule assessments for the selected batch of students and initiate the implementation of the Spirulina supplementation phase.
Conclusion: A Promising Start at St. Mary’s
The interest and initial support shown by St. Mary’s Matriculation School mark an important development in the ODOC Project’s growing presence in Chennai’s educational institutions. With school leadership on board and parents soon to be informed, this partnership is set to bring essential nutritional support to students who need it most.
The ODOC team remains committed to launching the program successfully and helping children thrive—one school, one child, one day at a time.
