Introducing the ODOC Project in Kolattur

As part of its ongoing Awareness and Community Engagement initiative, the One Dollar One Child (ODOC) team visited Madrasa Darul Uloom Ashrafia in Kolattur, Chennai, on 25th June 2025. The visit aimed to introduce the ODOC Project, a health-focused program that addresses child malnutrition through Spirulina supplementation, and explore a potential collaboration with the institution.

Discussion with Institutional Leadership

Engagement with Moulana Majid

During the visit, the team met with Moulana Mr. Majid, who was briefed with a comprehensive overview of the ODOC initiative. The presentation included:

  • The goals and structure of the ODOC Project
  • The assessment process used to identify undernourished children
  • Evidence-based outcomes from prior implementations
  • The positive health impacts of Spirulina, particularly in improving immunity, energy levels, and nutritional status in malnourished children

Moulana Majid expressed genuine interest in the program and appreciated its potential to support the nutritional well-being of the students.

Awaiting Final Decision from the Principal

While Moulana Majid was supportive, he noted that the final decision rests with Principal Mr. Ikram, who is currently out of station. He assured the ODOC team that a meeting will be arranged with the Principal upon his return to review the proposal in detail.

The ODOC team remains confident that, once the full school management is briefed, approval will be granted to begin the assessment and implementation process.

Conclusion: A Collaborative Step Toward Better Health

The visit to Madrasa Darul Uloom Ashrafia marks another important outreach effort in ODOC’s mission to combat malnutrition in underserved communities. Through dialogue, trust-building, and collaboration, the project continues to expand its reach and impact.

The ODOC team looks forward to engaging with Principal Ikram and the Madarsa management soon and remains committed to supporting the children of Kolattur through sustainable nutrition solutions like Spirulina.
