As part of the ongoing Outreach for Development of Children (ODOC) initiative by Sunyatee International Foundation, a community engagement visit was conducted on 21st July 2025 at Madarsa Shamshul Huda, located in Chennai. This visit was a continuation of the ODOC Project’s mission to raise awareness, build partnerships, and extend essential nutritional support to underserved communities through trusted local institutions.

Objective of the Visit

The primary goal of the visit was to introduce the ODOC Project to the institution and assess its potential for active participation. Madarsa Shamshul Huda currently has 50 enrolled students, all of whom attend regular formal schooling, making them eligible for inclusion in the ODOC program. The institution’s dual focus on traditional and formal education presented a valuable opportunity to integrate nutritional interventions without disrupting academic routines.

Key Highlights: The ODOC at Madarsa Shamshul Huda

During the visit, the ODOC team held a detailed discussion with Moulana Abrar, the head of the institution. The session covered:

  • An overview of the ODOC initiative
  • Program structure and community benefits
  • Scientific data supporting Spirulina supplementation
  • Evidence of health improvements from past program participants

Spirulina, a natural algae supplement rich in protein, iron, and essential micronutrients, has been a cornerstone of the ODOC Project’s nutritional intervention. The team emphasized how regular supplementation has improved immunity, energy levels, and overall health in children from previous batches.

Moulana Abrar appreciated the project’s purpose and shared his support in mobilizing the students and staff. He requested that health assessments be conducted on a day when all 50 students are present to ensure maximum benefit and coverage. A follow-up visit will be scheduled soon to finalize this date and begin assessments.

Building Trust, One Institution at a Time

This visit reaffirmed the importance of community-led engagement in driving successful outreach. By involving local institutions like Madarsa Shamshul Huda, the ODOC Project continues to build a network of trusted partnerships that are crucial for scaling nutritional interventions across diverse communities.

Conclusion

The visit to Madarsa Shamshul Huda marks another meaningful step in the ODOC Project’s journey to fight child malnutrition through inclusive, data-driven, and community-based strategies. With enthusiastic institutional support and a clear action plan for the next phase, this collaboration holds strong promise for impactful health outcomes in the children it aims to serve.
