Tracking Progress through Targeted Nutrition
As part of the ongoing One Dollar One Child (ODOC) initiative, Sunyatee International Foundation conducted the second Body Mass Index (BMI) assessment at Madrase Mahmoodiya in Padi, Chennai on 7th July 2025. This milestone is part of a broader effort to improve child health through Spirulina supplementation and structured health monitoring.
Initial Enrollment and Nutritional Intervention
During the initial health screening conducted earlier this year, 45 children were identified as malnourished and enrolled into the ODOC program. Each child began receiving daily Spirulina supplementation, a natural superfood rich in protein, iron, vitamins, and antioxidants.
Spirulina is known not only for supporting healthy weight gain but also for boosting immunity, increasing energy levels, and enhancing overall well-being.
Key Outcomes from the Second BMI Assessment
The second round of BMI evaluations has revealed positive improvements across all 45 children:
- Noticeable increases in BMI, indicating healthy weight gain
- Strengthened nutritional balance and physical growth
- Improved energy levels and immunity, as reported by guardians and teachers
Feedback from families has confirmed that the Spirulina regimen has become a comfortable part of the children’s routine, with high levels of consistency in daily intake. This sustained adherence plays a critical role in the program’s long-term success.
Beyond Numbers: Real Stories of Change
The impact of the program is not just reflected in charts and data. Parents and educators have observed:
- Reduced frequency of illness
- More active and engaged children in classrooms
- A general improvement in mood and attentiveness
Looking Ahead: Continued Monitoring and Support
This second BMI assessment marks significant progress, but the journey doesn’t stop here. The ODOC team will continue regular monitoring, culminating in a third and final evaluation, where long-term improvements in BMI and immune function will be assessed.
Conclusion: Second BMI Assessment
The ODOC initiative continues to prove that targeted, low-cost nutritional interventions—like daily Spirulina intake—can bring measurable improvements to undernourished children. With strong community collaboration and consistent follow-through, programs like these can pave the way for healthier, brighter futures for children across India.
