Topic: “Evaṁ me sutaṁ – Ekaṁ samayaṁ Bhagavā Rājagahe viharati…”
“Thus have I heard – At one time the Bhagavā was dwelling at Rājagaha, in the Veḷuvana, at the Kalandaka-nivāpa.”
In this enriching session, Datuk Dr. Lim Siow Jin offered reflections on the Buddha’s encounter with the ascetic Kassapa near Rājagaha, highlighting the practical and grounded way the Buddha engaged with others. Dr. Rajesh Savera guided the discussion, encouraging attendees to observe how the Buddha’s conduct served as a living example of clarity, discipline, and compassion.
The discourse describes the Buddha leaving in the morning with his robe and bowl, entering Rājagaha for alms. On his path, the naked ascetic Kassapa noticed him from afar, approached, and exchanged greetings. This moment sets the stage for a meaningful exchange rooted in mutual respect.
The session explored how even brief encounters like this reflect the Buddha’s way of meeting people where they are, inviting dialogue and reflection without judgment. Participants were encouraged to consider the value of such interactions in everyday life, shaped by presence and open communication.
