Topic:  EA17.1 Rāhula

In this engaging session, Datuk Dr. Lim Siow Jin shared meaningful insights on the Buddha’s guidance to young Rāhula, emphasizing the practical value of contemplating impermanence in everyday life. Dr. Rajesh Savera guided the discussion with clarity, helping participants grasp the depth of the teaching in a relatable way.

The discourse opens with the Buddha residing at Anāthapiṇḍika’s Ashrama in Jetavana, Śrāvastī. When it was time, he took his robe and alms bowl and, accompanied by Rāhula, entered the city for alms. During their walk, the Buddha turned and instructed Rāhula: “You should now contemplate form as impermanent.”

The discussion invited reflection on how awareness of change supports better understanding of actions, relationships, and priorities. The session highlighted the simplicity and depth of the teaching through direct application rather than abstract theory.
