The One Dollar One Child (ODOC) Project continues its mission to combat childhood malnutrition through early detection and targeted nutritional support. On August 11, 2025, the first BMI (Body Mass Index) assessment under the initiative was conducted at Jamia Siddiqiya Yateem Khana, Chennai. This milestone marks a crucial step in identifying nutritional gaps and implementing effective interventions for underprivileged children.

Assessment Findings
A total of 75 children residing at the Madarsa were screened using WHO BMI standards to evaluate their nutritional status.
- 64 children were identified as undernourished
- 5 children were found to be in the severely underweight category
These results highlight the alarming prevalence of malnutrition and the urgent need for interventions to safeguard both the physical and cognitive development of children in vulnerable communities.

Awareness Session on The first ODOC BMI assessment
To complement the assessment, the team conducted an interactive awareness session designed to match the children’s level of understanding. The session covered:
- The effects of undernourishment on physical and mental health
- The importance of balanced nutrition in supporting growth, learning, and immunity
- The unique benefits of Spirulina, a nutrient-dense superfood rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals
This educational component ensured that children not only received medical attention but also gained knowledge to make healthier choices in the long run.
Planned Follow-Up
Recognizing that improvement requires consistency, the ODOC team scheduled two follow-up BMI assessments within the next 45 days. These evaluations will help track progress, measure the impact of Spirulina supplementation, and provide insights into further nutritional support needs.
Community Response
The founder of Jamia Siddiqiya Yateem Khana expressed heartfelt gratitude for the initiative, acknowledging its timely and life-changing intervention. Inspired by the effectiveness of the program, he also referred another organization to join the ODOC assessment program—paving the way for a wider impact and outreach.

Conclusion : The first ODOC BMI assessment
The first ODOC BMI assessment at Jamia Siddiqiya Yateem Khana stands as a landmark achievement in the fight against childhood malnutrition. With clear data, targeted interventions, and ongoing monitoring, the project ensures that children not only receive immediate support but also long-term health benefits.
By extending its reach and fostering community trust, the ODOC initiative is moving closer to its vision of nourishing every child, empowering communities, and shaping a healthier future.
