As part of Sunyatee International Foundation’s ODOC (One Dollar One Child) initiative, a second BMI assessment was successfully conducted on 11th July 2025 at Jamia Usmania Yateem Khana Trust, Chennai. This session followed the initial screening and Spirulina supplementation drive held on 19th June 2025, and marks a significant milestone in the ongoing mission to combat child malnutrition through structured nutritional interventions.

SECOND BMI ASSESSMENT

The second BMI assessment was carried out with the following key objectives:

  • Re-evaluate BMI levels of the 43 children who were identified as malnourished during the first screening.
  • Verify regular consumption and adherence to the Spirulina dosage guidelines.
  • Collect firsthand feedback from both the children and institutional staff regarding their supplementation experience.

The outcomes of this session were both measurable and meaningful:

  • A notable improvement in BMI levels was observed among the majority of the children, indicating a positive nutritional shift since the intervention began.
  • 100% compliance in Spirulina consumption was recorded, reflecting both the ease of integration into daily routines and the awareness created through the program.
  • Children reported visible improvements in energy levels, appetite, and concentration in academic and daily activities.

The management at Jamia Usmania Yateem Khana Trust expressed deep satisfaction with the structured, child-focused approach of the program. Their active involvement and encouragement have been vital to ensuring consistent supplement consumption and open communication about the children’s progress.

The feedback received during interactions with children and staff highlighted the positive impact the intervention has had in a short period. Many children shared that they feel more active, can focus better during school hours, and generally feel healthier.

With strong cooperation from institutional stakeholders, the ODOC Program is steadily building a model of effective and scalable nutritional support. The second assessment does not only serve as a checkpoint but also validates the core design of the ODOC approach.

SECOND BMI ASSESSMENT

Conclusion: SECOND BMI ASSESSMENT

The second BMI assessment at Jamia Usmania Yateem Khana Trust has reaffirmed the ODOC program’s mission of improving child health through sustainable, low-cost nutritional interventions. The encouraging outcomes—rising BMI levels, high compliance, and positive feedback—underscore the effectiveness of the Spirulina supplementation phase. The upcoming third and final assessment will play a critical role in measuring long-term impact and refining the intervention model for broader implementation. With each milestone, the ODOC (One Dollar One Child) initiative continues to demonstrate that a small contribution can lead to a lasting change in a child’s life.
