Ekotara Āgama 19.6
Live Discourse by Datuk’ Dr. Lim Siow Jin
Date: 25 May 2025
On the serene evening of 25 May 2025, during a live discourse, Datuk’ Dr. Lim Siow Jin illuminated a profound teaching from the Ekotara Āgama (19.6)—a timeless wisdom rooted in the early Buddhist scriptures. This teaching was shared at the Anāthapiṇḍika’s Ashrama in Jētavana, Śrāvastī, where the Buddha once resided.
In his discourse, the Bhagavān (Blessed One) addressed the assembly of bhikṣus (monks), imparting a truth that echoes through the centuries:
“There are two practices that lead to poverty and lack of wealth. What are these two? When one sees others giving, they obstruct it; and they themselves are unwilling to give. These, bhikshus, are the two practices that cause poverty and lack of wealth.”

🪔 Key Reflections from the Session:
1.When we hinder or discourage the giving of others—whether through envy, cynicism, or selfishness—we cut off the flow of positive karmic energy. Such actions not only diminish the giver’s merit but also plant seeds of scarcity in our own lives.
2.Clinging tightly to what we possess—be it wealth, time, or compassion—leads to stagnation. Generosity, on the other hand, opens channels of abundance, both materially.
Datuk’ Dr. Lim emphasized that by embodying the spirit of giving and encouraging generosity in others, we align ourselves with the natural law of abundance.
