Engaging with Local Leadership: The ODOC Project

Meeting with Hazarat Shamim

During the visit, the ODOC team met with Hazarat Shamim, a key community leader, to discuss the project’s objectives and benefits. The team presented a detailed overview of the initiative—highlighting the growing success of ODOC in other regions, the measurable health improvements in children, and the long-term goal of reducing malnutrition.

The discussion also included a review of previous implementation experiences and positive feedback from other participating madarsas, where children have shown increased energy, better immunity, and improved overall health after regular Spirulina intake.

Addressing Concerns Around Spirulina

As is common in initial interactions, concerns about the safety and side effects of Spirulina were raised. The ODOC team responded with openness, sharing both scientific research and real-life testimonials from educators and parents who have seen first-hand the safe and beneficial impact of Spirulina on children.

This transparent communication helped alleviate doubts, fostering a deeper level of trust and understanding between the ODOC team and local leadership.

Next Steps and Project Planning: The ODOC Project

Currently, approximately 50 children are enrolled across the two madarsas. Recognizing the potential reach and impact, Hazarat Shamim encouraged the team to reconnect soon for further planning. The groundwork has been laid, and the ODOC team will continue follow-up discussions to finalize the assessment schedule and begin the rollout of the nutrition program.
